Focusing Teacher Annette Dubreuil will share the various ways that felt sense body cards can be used to record our embodied experiences. This includes recording the felt sense that emerges in an individual Focusing or meditation session, or recording parts or qualities of ourselves. Once a part is identified, we can see where it lives in our autonomic nervous system and what role it plays. Noticing these aspects help us classify the parts according to Polyvagal Theory, or other classification systems like Internal Family Systems. One can then create a map of one's nervous system or a timeline of one's life to tell your life story. The body cards also help us be more aware of when we are starting to shift neurophysiological states in real life, allowing us to call on our daily
This presentation will provide a brief overview of Focusing-oriented expressive arts (FOAT®), including its main approaches— Theme-Directed FOAT; Clearing a Space with Arts; FOAT Check-in and Working on an Issue.
We will do a Theme-Directed FOAT® exercise on Gene Gendlin’s central concept, the Focusing Attitude— being curious and “friendly” to all of one’s inner experiences, whether uplifting or painful and difficult. This experiential exercise includes user-friendly methods for expressing the felt sense through creative expression.
Note: No experience needed in Focusing and/or arts.

Our ‘Wise SELF’ is the all-encompassing, best version of YOU and me. In Focusing, we often assume that a person's 'Wise SELF' will emerge organically (and it can). This roundtable will show participants how to unfold your Wise SELF or guide others through a ‘Wise SELF’ Focusing process.

Our usual practice is to open with an attunement that helps us set aside our busy lives and deliberately come into this protected space, where we can be with whatever is there in our inner world that needs our warm curious attention. Then we separate into pairs or triads to Focus, and come back together at the end for a time of closing.
Focusers of all levels of experience are welcome.

Ann will tell the story of meeting and learning Focusing from Gene Gendlin 50 years ago, when she was 22— and how Gene encouraged her to develop her own ideas about teaching Focusing, saying “Keep going!” It’s a part of Gene’s philosophy that the only way to be true to an idea or a method is to bring it through your own body and make it your own. After, Ann will share about the development of Inner Relationship Focusing, and how it grew from seeds planted while she was assisting Gene with his first Focusing workshops.
Inner Relationship Focusing (IRF) is an approach to Focusing based on cultivating an inner state of calm, curious acceptance toward all aspects of the self, including stressful and judgmental thoughts and all sorts of emotions and body sensations. An important

We have all been wounded. Our gifts are often buried below trauma, oppression, and shame. Even when we experience our deeper self it can feel re-wounding as we try to step into our biggest self. Trauma can isolate us and hold us back; it can also be something that initiates us to a deeper experience of Self and connection to others when we can find our gifts and share them with others.
Following a brief overview of trauma from a Focusing-Oriented Therapy (FOT) perspective, participants will be invited to explore their own life experiences that have been wounding and others that were enlivening, in search of their implicit gifts.
Therapists and other healing professionals will experience how Presence, guided inquiry, and Focusing can facilitate safety,

Children Focusing provides adults with the skills, knowledge and attitudes that allows them to be with ~ and work with children,
using the tools, techniques and inherently gentle, playful approach of Focusing.

The theme is inspired by the simple, yet fundamental question which Carl Rogers asked himself: “How can I be of help?” It is a question we think is of interest for person centered and experiential (PCE) practitioners and researchers, as well as more broadly in the world of psychotherapy. A question we find it worthwhile revisiting in order to explore what answers may be found today.
If you are curious about a new way of understanding addiction and other trauma responses this group is for you. Come and join us as we work with my new model based on my book Treating Trauma and Addiction with the Felt Sense Polyvagal Model. Together we will explore how addictions act as ‘propellors’ that shift us back and forth from a flight/fight state to a numbing Fold state in a valiant attempt to survive. Through the polyvagal lens addictions are appreciated as adaptive responses in maladaptive environments. They help us in the short term, hurt us in the long term, and we can’t stop doing them.
Lawrence Berger and serge Prengel will be discussing how we make sense of the world and our place in it, i.e. what is usually called philosophy or spirituality. There will be time for Q & A from the audience.
