The TIFI Membership Committee is pleased to offer this series of Focusing Roundtables, designed especially for members of the Institute. If you are not a member, please join at this link and then return to this page to register. This program will afford members a valuable opportunity to engage in casual peer-to-peer conversation with other members who share Focusing-related interests.
Roundtable Topic:
The International Focusing Institute (TIFI) has put together a series of short videos featuring Gene Gendlin in his own words. Most are bite-size, anywhere from 2-11 mins. They feature Gene talking about such topics as why Focusing works, the importance of carrying forward and taking action steps.
It’s interesting to hear that it was Carl Rogers that introduced Gene to the importance of listening and how Gendlin came to value listening as an integral part of Focusing.
During this Roundtable we will watch a few of these ‘movie bites’ together, have time for discussion and time to reflect on what is emerging in small groups.
Bring your own popcorn!
Who might be particularly interested in attending this Roundtable?
This Roundtable is intended for anyone who is interested in hearing Gene talk about a range of subjects over the years and who would like to discuss the topics he covers in these short extracts.
Utilizing breakout rooms as well as full group discussion, participants will have the opportunity to have a conversation with fellow members.
CONNECTION>CONVERSATION>COMMUNITY
What to expect from Focusing Roundtables: Each Focusing Roundtable is designed to promote informal peer-to-peer conversation. Rather than acting as expert presenters, the Hosts will serve as conversation moderators to encourage sharing and exploration of the topics from the participants’ own perspectives. All participants’ sharings are welcome and valuable, no matter what level of experience or knowledge you have on the topic. To preserve the nature of informal conversation, the program will be offered live only and no recordings will be available. Registration is limited and on a first-come, first served basis. Participants are encouraged to create follow up opportunities for connection among themselves after the Roundtable.
About your host:
Mary Jennings is a Coordinator based in Dublin, Ireland. She has been involved in practicing and teaching Focusing for many years.
Mary has been on the organising committee of the TIFI Roundtable team for the past 3 years. Most recently, she led the year-long Reading Freshly project, a monthly gathering of TIFI members reading Gendlin’s ground-breaking book Focusing.
