Where & When
Gendlin’s philosophy and practices of “Focusing” and “Listening” have opened a door to the incredible mystery and vastness that each of us IS! The lived experience of these practices can light the way in therapy and in our personal lives. It often ignites a hunger for a further fuller intimacy with ourselves and others. It promises a way of relating in which we can be alive and open to the otherness of the other without losing touch with the particularity of our own being. As E.E. Cummings put it “i am through you so i.”
Gendlin spoke of this kind of relating as “what we all really want... part of the further development of the human being that comes with the discovery of experiential intricacy.” We ARE OUR RELATING and many of us long for and urgently need new ways of approaching the complexities and challenges of genuine interaction.
In this module of “The Therapeutic Us” we will explore:
• a framework for EMBODIED RELATING
• a “practice” based on furthering our skills and understandings of SPEAKING as well as Focusing and Listening
• a model for SPEAKING UP, SPEAKING FROM, SPEAKING TO and SPEAKING WITH
This six-session class is both didactic and experiential. It is geared for group leaders, community builders and therapists but everyone is welcome.
